Karl Goldmark recognized a “pure, noble, artistic attitude” in his much younger composer colleague Arnold Schönberg. He saw “no danger whatsoever” in the latter’s teaching activities at the Vienna Music Academy. In fact, Schönberg was committed to the values of Viennese Classicism throughout his life: even the late Organ Sonata combines the twelve-tone compositional technique with traditional formal thinking. In this concert, Bartók’s Sonata forms a link to Goldmark’s Hungarian roots, and is complemented by imaginative duo pieces by Jörg Widmann.

The concert will be streamed live on facebook and YouTube and will be available seven days after the concert.
